What do you think of the Jurassic World trailer?
So I’ve been a little absent the past few weeks, planning and then executing both wedding and honeymoon #2. Now that’s over with, tis time to think about movies a little. Thought I would ease myself in by sharing the first trailer for Jurassic World (2015) which debuted a month or so ago. Even with all the huge films on their way next year, this is still probably my most anticipated. I am a massive fan of all three J Park films and am well and truly excited for the Park to be open.
There was a fair bit of flack thrown at the film when this trailer landed. A lot of that is I think your usual internet scorn. There is much to be excited about here and I think the trailer is pretty exciting and gives a lot of hope that the unlikely team of Colin Trevorrow, Chris Pratt and company could really reinvigorate the series. There is some nice humour, I love the fact that the park really is open in this one and there is an aquarium with a freakin murderous plesiosaur/crocodile type thing. Which is all one can ask for. The misgivings I do have, and they have been there since I heard of some of these plot points, centre around the use of genetic hybrid dinosaurs. It just seems so unnecessary to me, given the huge numbers of visually stunning and vicious dinosaurs out there that have not been used yet. But who knows, it could be an utterly inspired move by the writers.
Genuinely keen to hear what you guys think of this trailer too. Hoping to reply to all the comments on here over the next few days and check out what you have all been up to as well. Hope all are well.

Trailer for your Weekend: Frozen
In my view, Disney have been doing some pretty interesting things of late. Whilst concerning many with their strategy surrounding Pixar, films like Tangled and Wreck-It Ralph from the house of mouse have been really quite good.
Check out the first teaser trailer for their upcoming film Frozen. It doesn’t tell you too much, but with a lot of the Wreck-It Ralph crew involved, hopefully they can keep their good form going.

Trailer for your Weekend: Gravity
I think this teaser for Alfonso Cuaron’s upcoming sci-fi flick Gravity has been doing the rounds for a while. But I only just caught it and it has absolutely blown me away. The trailer itself does a great job of giving a sense of the plot with very few specifics to spoil the end experience. This high concept flick featuring two astronauts drifting in space sounds pretty incredible to start with. Add in the fact that the two astronauts are played by George Clooney and Sandra Bullock who I have been liking more and more and I think we have a pretty exciting combination.
Are you guys as psyched for this as I am?

Trailer for your Weekend: Iron Man 3
Iron Man 3 is a difficult one for me. I absolutely loved Iron Man, for me it is about as good a comic book origin story has been made on film. Unfortunately, I don’t think I can recall a more dissapointing comic book movie than Iron Man 2. Smug, shallow and more interested in Downey Jr’s Tony Stark making horrid self-knowing quips than delivering plot or action. So I was a little hesitant about Iron Man 3, until I saw this trailer a few weeks ago. Who knows how it will turn out, but I for one am now excited. So excited I bought a ticket to a midnight screening, even though I can only see it in 3D which is not my preference.

Trailer for your Weekend: Star Trek Into Darkness
For some reason, this was billed as an “announcement” on the site where I watch my trailers, so I almost didn’t click on it.
But it’s a teaser trailer, and an utterly killer one. I enjoyed the first Star Trek film (the first of these new ones – you know what I mean). That’s coming from someone who has never even watched a Star Trek TV show or film before. And seeing this suddenly has me hanging out for the next entry. Benedict Cumberbatch!!! Sherlock is one of my favourite shows of recent years, so seeing that man in a major villain role is enough to get me excited for this. Everything else is pretty cool too. What do you guys think of this one?
On a side note, any Star Trek fans out there? Would love to hear suggestions on the best way to start exploring the canon. Every time I look for a way in, I am just too intimidated by the sheer number of different versions of the TV show. Not sure where the start is, or if I should even be starting from the start.

Trailer for your Weekend: World War Z
I’ve not read the book that World War Z is based on, but I have heard very good things. Given the popularity of the book and zombie narratives in general, a film adaptation was pretty inevitable. Featuring Mr Brad Pitt means that this has gotten even more hype. It has been in production for a while and here is the first official trailer.
What do you all think? Looks rather massive in budget and scope to me. Has the potential to be something really quite special. Or a bit meh. We will find out either way next year.
Trailer for your Weekend: Love
It is so nice that in this age of endless trailers online, something can still creep up and surprise you. The trailer for Love did just that when I saw it at the cinema the other week. This beguiling looking film comes out of the work of the band Angels and Airwaves, the side project of one of the members of Blink 182. What an awesomely strange source for a film! The film looks incredible, and extremely ambitious, spanning history and the universe. I think the film has been available in various forms for a while now, but it is getting a cinema release here in Australia very soon, and I for one will be lining up to check it out. Thoughts on this one?
