Trailer for your Weekend: The Counsellor

counselor

Well with Ridley Scott and Cormac McCarthy involved, plenty of people are pretty psyched for this one. I couldn’t dine the exact trailer I have seen in cinemas out here a bunvh of times recently. But I love this. Gives very little away which is such a refreshing change. But what  a bloody cast to go with the firector and the writer. I will most certainly be checking this one out.

Trailer for your Weekend: Monsters Dark Continent

Monsters-Dark-Continent

So it turns out Monsters (2010) is getting a sequel in the form of Monsters: Dark Continent. Who knew? Definitely not me until this news exploded across my computer screen earlier this week. I was a big fan of the first film, I ranked it number three in my Top five list for 2010. But it was a pretty divisive film, and I know there are plenty of people out there who did not dig it at all. For me though, I am absolutely psyched for this. That one image in this trailer of one of the huge creatures being carried in a big coal truck has absolutely sold me. Can’t wait!

Trailer for your Weekend: The Monuments Men

the-monuments-men-poster-405x600

I’m a sucker for anything starring George Clooney and Matt Damon. Oh except if the title starts with the word Oceans. The Monuments Men, a war period piece looks like it could be pretty fantastic, especially with the awesome cast that has been assembled. With the focus on ‘monuments’ as well, it could possibly be a different approach to dealing with the War then that usually taken.  I will definitely be keeping my eye out for this one.

Trailer for your Weekend: Escape Plan

escape_plan_poster-610x903

A little late on this again this week. But at least it will probably be on the weekend for most of you.  This week’s trailer is for the upcoming Escape Plan, which may help us answer the question of whether Arnie and Sly still have it. If they ever had it to begin with in your opinion.

To be honest, this looks like pretty stock standard prison breakout fare. Except y’know, with Fiddy Cent and a terrible CGI looking prison. Not sure that either of those will help. Who knows if it will reach any great heights. Here’s hoping it does, because the prison break subgenre is actually one with some pretty interesting and fun films.

Trailer for your Weekend: R.I.P.D.

RIPD-poster2

A little late with this, but better late then never I guess. R.I.P.D is apparently already out in the states, though it mustn’t be making many waves because I have not really seen any reviews doing the rounds. The trailer looks like it could be a pretty clever ride and it has some pretty interesting people involved – Jeff Bridges, Ryan Reynolds and the awesome Mary Louise Parker. It does also look like it has a tone that could definitely go either way.  Has anyone seen this already and care to share their thoughts?

Trailer for your Weekend: The Canyons

canyons

A bit of stunt casting for this one – the porn star and the fallen star of Lindsay Lohan. Plus it is based on a work by Bret Easton Ellis, the controversial writer. I have read (and been challenged by) some of his work in the past and I am intrigued to see this, despite the authors rather unlikable public profile. This trailer is decent, I especially like the opening little part about films. Plus the fact that Paul Schrader directs the film, makes me pretty keen to check this one out.

Trailer for your Weekend: Frozen

Disney-Frozen-Movie-Poster

In my view, Disney have been doing some pretty interesting things of late. Whilst concerning many with their strategy surrounding Pixar, films like Tangled and Wreck-It Ralph from the house of mouse have been really quite good.

Check out the first teaser trailer for their upcoming film Frozen. It doesn’t tell you too much, but with a lot of the  Wreck-It Ralph crew involved, hopefully they can keep their good form going.

Trailer for your Weekend: Gravity

gravity-poster

I think this teaser for Alfonso Cuaron’s upcoming sci-fi flick Gravity has been doing the rounds for a while. But I only just caught it and it has absolutely blown me away. The trailer itself does a great job of giving a sense of the plot with very few specifics to spoil the end experience. This high concept flick featuring two astronauts drifting in space sounds pretty incredible to start with. Add in the fact that the two astronauts are played by George Clooney and Sandra Bullock who I have been liking more and more and I think we have a pretty exciting combination.

Are you guys as psyched for this as I am?

Trailer for your Weekend: V/H/S/2

vhs 2

I missed the V/H/S, but I have been intending on catching up on it as I heard some really interesting (if varied) things about it. I better get cracking, because the sequel V/H/S/2 is coming our way soon. They seem to have some pretty impressive directors responsible for the short films that make up this anthology. Even though I am not generally a fan of found footage films (I mean who is really) I am pretty intrigued to see this I have to say. What about you guys? And what did you all think of the first one?

Trailer for your Weekend: The Way, Way Back

way poster

In many ways, Juno and Little Miss Sunshine both have  a lot to answer for. Both films I love, the success of those two films sent studios scurrying to create the next indie hit. Of course when studios try and create something ‘indie’, it just does not work and numerous films fell into the trap of trying to imitate the legitimate charm of the two films mentioned.

The Way, Way Back sees Little Miss Sunshine stars Steve Carrell and Toni Collette seek to recapture that charming vibe. The trailer all looks a bit average until Sam Rockwell rears his awesome head, and brings a seemingly different angle to proceedings. Here’s hoping this film can be a charming and original feeling one aye. I’m keen to check it out after this trailer.
