Trailer for your Weekend: Godzilla

godzilla march poster

I rarely feature multiple trailers for the same film in this segment. Actually I think that Godzilla (2014) is a first there. I liked the teaser, which I looked at here, but I utterly love this full length effort.

For starters it is just so badass. We get to see a bunch of action, Cranston, Kick Ass and FREAKIN GODZILLA. But I also think this is one of the better examples of how to really do a great trailer of recent times. There are not spoilers for the entire narrative as is so common. But at the same time, the trailer manages to hit the viewer with some wonderful little plot points, such as the bit about the Pacific nuclear tests. Bring on this film basically. With the director and this trailer, I could not be more excited for it. You guys psyched too?

Also, anyone else notice that the sound effect at the start of this is exactly the same as the ones that were in the Pacific Rim (2013) trailers? I got two words for you: crossover film. That would be mind numbingly sweet.

Just a reminder, it may be a quiet couple of weeks on the site. I have a fair few day job (lame) and sporting commitments coming up. I have also had the first episode of the Beer Movie Podcast recorded for weeks and still not gotten around to editing it, so need to get on that.

  1. I had pretty low expectations for this, but they’ve jumped up a fair bit now. That’s a pretty awesome trailer.

    1. As soon as the director was announced I had high expectations. Confirmed by the trailer.

  2. I love that they actually reference the year 1954, and that he has a very similar roar.

    1. Yeah I noticed the roar as well. Excitement building for me with this one.

  3. I am SO PUMPED. Phenomenal trailer.

    1. Same Fernando. This and Captain America are doing battle for my most anticipated of the year.

      1. Really looking forward to that one as well.

  4. I can honestly say that it is the movie I am most looking forward to in 2014. The background of my phone is the poster, and I keep talking about it. A buddy and I even sat down to watch the American versions of the past, and the Japanese one that showed in North American theaters. With that said, only the 1956 version was good, but I have high hopes for this one.

Gareth Edwards created Monsters on a $500,000 budget. Whether or not you like that movie, the one undeniable fact is that the CGI was amazing. His screenwriting is not going to be used in Godzilla, so people who hated the story of his other film have nothing to worry about. All they will is a man who made magic with half a million, now having $160 million, and that alone is something to look forward too.

Another positive is that it will have a serious tone. And Bryan Cranston. And the adorable Ashley Olson. I’m so pumped….

    1. I absolutely love Monsters. I know a lot of people are not fond of the story, but I was engrossed bu it.

This or Captain America are my most anticipated for the year. Can’t wait for them both to arrive.

  5. I’m really surprised by how good this trailer looks. Really looking forward to the movie now. I thought of Pacific Rim when I saw this trailer too – a mash up could work pretty well.

    1. Thanks very much for commenting. I reckon a mash up film would be ace, so much potential there.

  6. Can’t be any worse than the old Gozdilla film eh? Haha.
    I’m so pumped for this!

    1. Never say never… but I have high hopes for this one.
