Captain America: The Winter Soldier character posters

I generally don’t write about posters on here. Despite being a massive fan of film posters, I think in the mainstream that most of the work is a little samey and the best posters these days are done by fans and non-official artists.

But for some reason, I am really digging character posters of late. This is not to say that anything about the character posters being churned out is particularly innovative or more inspired than standard posters. That is not true in essentially all instances. I guess the concept is just a little new and I like having the whole frame devoted to a single character. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is one of my most anticipated films of the year and this week three character posters were released for the film. Thought I would share them with you here.

First up is Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. So far Marvel have really done nothing with this character in her couple of appearances in the cinematic universe. I’m not really sure how much of a role the character has in this film, but hopefully they can capture the interesting character from the comics.

Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury has been in more of these Marvel films than anyone else. I kinda like this poster. Having him leaning over a desk makes him look like the most badass boss you ever had. I hope Samuel L. doesn’t just phone it in. He is starring in these lame sports betting ads out here these days. And every time he turns in a lazy performance, I can’t help thinking of those infernal ads.

Lastly is the main guy, Chris Evans’ Captain America. I really liked him in the first film and am hoping this next one delivers too. I like this poster as well, being a closer in shot than is standard. Looks kind of cool and contemplative whilst rocking the awesome shield on his back.

What do you guys think about these new posters for the film?

  1. I like the Black Widow and Cap posters. Not a big fan of the Nick Fury one because I’m just not a fan of that character. But all of Marvel posters as of late seem to be very similar, even in the color pallette.

    1. Yeah I have not loved what they have done with that character in most of the films. Not sure how much of that is due to me being a little over Samuel L. That said, I did really like him in Robocop, which was average aside from his performance.

      1. Except for Pulp Fiction (where he’s superb) and Django, I’m not a fan of him.

      2. I actually found him really annoying in Django. Not sure how much of that was him, and how much was the way the character was written though.

      3. I hated him deeply, but that was the point, I guess. Jackson gave a great performance in my opinion, but I can see him coming off as annoying.

  2. Do not care for the Captain, and disliked the first film, but as a superhero geek, I am watching it opening night. Love the Widow and Fury posters. I have to agree with Samuel having a tendency to phone in roles these days. Stay far away from Unreasonable Doubt, which is a 2014 straight to DVD film. that he starred in recently.

    1. Thanks for the tip about staying away from Unreasonable Doubt.

I actually really liked the first Captain America film. Was a fan of how they made it a period piece. So I am hanging out for the new film. Hoping they will have a midnight screening where I am.

  3. Kinda hard not to like Scarlett Johansson 😀
Samuel does bad as good (since pulp fiction) . I liked Chris in this role, he played it well IMO, looking forward to the film..

    1. Yeah I agree about Chris Evans. I thought he was good in the first film and really looking forward to the second.

      1. I started to watch ‘A Common Man’ last night, it was terrible, switched it off after ten minutes.. I would recommend it for a miss list

      2. Thanks for the tip. Haven’t even heard of that one.

      3. Keep not hearing about it 😀

  4. Wow they really sexualized Black Widow, whats with that pose? Also those boobs are so photoshopped, nobody has perfectly circular boobs haha 😀

The other posters look great 😀

    1. You’re right actually, the Black Widow one is massively photoshopped. Far too much.

      1. It just makes me laugh, way over the top.

  5. I love the poster of Black Widow. There’s a really interesting sense of movement in it, despite it being a still image. As for Captain America, he kind of looks like a turtle with the shield on his back!

    1. You’re right about the sense of movement in the Black Widow one. It is probably my least favourite of the three though, just cause of the photoshop vibe. I still really like it though.

  6. These look great!

    1. Yeah man I like them a lot. More than just the standard posters.

  7. I like the one for Captain America. They are all actually pretty cool. Looking forward to this film!

    1. Same Zoe. I was a big fan of the first one, so this is one of my most anticipated of the year.

      1. Oh really? That’s awesome. Hope it lives up to expectations!
